Writing the study portion of a Member's Life Plan
We encourage our Members to become more employable by study.
We encourage our Members to become wiser by study.
We encourage our Members to help other persons to study.
We encourage our Members to think about one of our slogans: "Lifetimes
of learning".
To meet with one encouragement to study this life is a blessing.
To meet with four encouragements to study is rare.
When persons who did not think they could study decide to learn as adults, they must start with the notion they wish to find out about new things or, if that is too threatening, wish to find more detail about old things they have half learnt.
Employers who have inservice training ready for those who are employable want persons who want to learn. Even if you decide to study something that is not job related you must want to learn and write your own study plan.
Now is the time to decide to learn.
This is the learning age where more and more Australians awaken to their need to know.
The pace at which old knowledge and old cultural artefacts are being recorded throughout the world is very great.
Also, when this information is put on an internet site it comes at an affordable cost.
The fact is that now you can view expensive art forms, such as Tibetan Thankas, at an affordable cost, opens up a new level of study to many persons who would be unable to see such forms without thousands of dollars of travel to other countries.
The rate at which new knowledge is being written down, discovery after discovery, is increasing.
One estimate is that the world's knowledge may double what it is now in three years. It will certainly double in the next 10 years.
To study with discipline new developments outside of a University structure to keep up to date with what is happening in the world is done in modern companies throughout the world every day.
Some industrial writers have stated that as much as 10% of working time devoted to learning will become normal in modern business.
It would be a good thing if men and women who plan to stay employable write a conceptual plan to find the time to learn how to learn without attending formal lectures.
Within the next 20 years, it will be likely that the old expensive methods of having a live teacher in a classroom will be uncommon. Persons will learn from programmed learning.
It would be a good idea to develop such a mindset and draw
up your own conceptual plan and make it affordable by setting
your mind to it.
Today, we are going to outline how you could go about such a scheme.
The Conceptual Plan for the 3-year Auxiliary Study Component of
a Member's Life Plan 1999-2002
This conceptual plan does not deal with the Member's prime study field.
This plan commits our Member to study and learn more about geology, painting and knowledge management for at least 3 years.
The plan intends such studies will extend to 3rd order knowledge or higher.
1st order study is defined as where the person learns 1st order
knowledge.
2nd order study is defined as where the person learns 2nd order
knowledge, and so on.
It is wise to plan to specify that superior visible output
should result within a 1,2 or 3-year time frame.
What will you be like as the result of study?
Will you be....more compassionate? Less angry? More what? Less
what?
To plan, you should write it down!
You may or may not decide that your study plan suggests interconnecting to knowledge supply chains so that when you produce valuable knowledge it can be secured as goods that can be traded.
Ask yourself--what might the commercial product look like?
Think with optimism and write it down.
Some goods to be traded may be irregular items of excess stock such as labelled mineral specimens, fossils, or other value added rock items that may or may not be profitable.
Other products may be regular trade items such as training modules, paintings or their derivatives.
Some nebulous not-for-profit goods or services are within the conceptual study plan.
These goods or services given may be a ceremony such as Naga offerings, a range of Teachings, articles for local and overseas media, celebrations, festivals, a series of convivia, a local journal, management guidance memos, written output for government bodies, radio broadcasts and other bulletins about the studies.
A company exists which could do the commercial exploitation of the trade goods. It would be nice if ROI was produced outside or inside this 3-year conceptual plan.
Either way, the conceptual study plan must be likely to gain merit for our Member. While the choice of three subject matters for his 3-year auxiliary study is in the domain of his ancient interests, it would be nice if the output helped modern persons to be contented.
What will the output look like?
In terms of output, knowledge management design means:
--The prime output will be our Member's writing in the English
language.
--Secondary output will use multimedia to make it easier to convey
meaning.
1.0 STUDY FIELDS SELECTED ARE LIKELY TO GAIN MERIT.
Our Member has selected three curiosity areas of interest and
their attendant cohorts are:
--geology All human and nagas are the main interest group
(body).
--painting Chan Masters and Vajrasattva and retinue are
a main interest group (speech).
--knowledge management Some humans and Brahma Gods are among
the interest groups, such as, for example, the Devas of Learning
(mind).
This means he will learn with body, speech and mind.
2.0 SUPPORT STRUCTURES.
These support structures:
--Make studies possible and visible output possible.
--These gather and hold the references.
--These gather up the four friends of the study.
--Distribution and marketing networks for output are viewed as
support structures.
--Relevant altars should be prepared to the devas of learning.
3.0 GENERAL METHOD FOR PROJECT ANALYSIS.
STAGE 1
--Read journals and on line work-in-progress to cover the state
of art.
STAGE 2
--Design the narrower subject matter so the second round of
reading can be found.
--At the same time, gather together technical dictionaries and
glossaries of the terminology and units used in the discipline.
STAGE 3
--Equip our Member with knowledge management software and suitable
expertise for him to use in the tertiary study phase of the subject.
--A paradigm can be formed so the first stage of research can
be planned.
--Review the research plans for rigour and be prepared to act
to bring critical reform to the paradigm used in the first stage
of research plan to develop a more dense research plan.
STAGE 4
--Fund the research plan and formulate guidelines for the research
plan to be undertaken.
--Add to the list of terms needed to frame an exposition about
the state of the art during the research studies in the field.
--Review the administrative & financial processes needed.
STAGE 5
--Commence research plan.
--Design the P.R. method that will alert interested parties to
support research work-in-progress.
--Prepare research bulletins.
STAGE 6
--Obtain ownership of a fully equipped building to house a Project Centre and Research Laboratory for advanced study.
This 3-year conceptual plan:
--Endorses that our Member allots 25% more time to his next three-years
of study.
--Causes future study plans to arise in the next three lives.
--Causes our Member to develop study modes as harmonies fruition.
--Make antecedents for our Member's long life, health and wealth.
The output of this cogitation can be measured in the five styles.
The five styles are friendliness, practicality, cultural adaptability, scholarship and professionalism.
Past (meaning causes to date) study appears as a lamp on the Path whose light imparts sufficient fanfare in the global sense wherever our Member directs it to shine.
This Dhamma light will help many beings find the Path leading to the end of suffering.
Our Member's study asseverations for the next three years.
Our Member's past efforts have honed his skills enough so he can produce conceptual solutions for most ideas.
He is appreciative of quality level issues of what he wants to do.
Over at least the next three years, he should be able to vision and accomplish at least 10 good projects with a little help from his friends without too much prompted effort from the Teacher's side.
What new factors make more study time possible?
Our Member gains much more control of his study workspace.
When does this happen?
After a new building having space to accommodate an IT control
person.
From October 1999, our Member will budget his time, resources, technology and helpers to produce his minor and major study timetables.
His minor and major studies will combine with his facility to fruit the work of his major dissertation on the five trusts that will lead to practical forms of artifical intelligence.
The study topics of his prime major studies cover six defined areas (the five trusts plus one other variable). Not all combinations will be explored.
At present, it is thought (of possible coms. and perms. sub-sets),
about 80 useful "commentary derivatives" out of a possible
720 on the array will be studied.
There are 720 because 6! = 6.5.4.3.2.1 = 720
The three-year study is based on a hypothesis that about 11% (80) of these 720 combinations are practical enough to be explored as being fit for work.
Of the 80 "good ones" that are found in the solution set, it is posited that 11 of these will be very useful.
At present, the major resource person who will help our Member's study with research and clerical assistance has been chosen..
Three insights will be of major industrial importance in predicting "emergent" system possibilities.
These three insights will bring to an end the pretext of anti-intellectualism and shift the position of the ditch where successful nullifiers are replaced by non-nullifiers.
As more and more sociology and anthropology appear, it would be nice to have a system that is not grounded in nihilism or eternalism.
The sub-sets our Member uses will detect "thinking" outside these two extreme views.
They provide alternatives that can generate timely delivery of new learning products.
They represent a quasi-form of artificial intelligence.
By teaching using these three procedures, young persons will escape much of the pollution, artifice and contamination of their minds that occurs with the present systems.
The beauty of a demonstration by these procedures allows persons to conceive a more timeless structure that is not artifical.
If a human did this it is the one way that metadata may give
a functional IMS.
Some of these are new knowledge.
4.0 Support Structures for distribution & marketing networks
4.1 Information Management Technology
Over the rest of 1999, our Member's output will institute preferred standards to support national co-operation to applying VET technology to delivery.
Knowledge management will have interactivity and a help desk.
By 2000, teleconferencing will be one aspect of know-how delivery.
What does work output look like?
Output is hard to see at the start so a range of some guesses
are made now.
5.0 A selection will be made from this menu.
24 derivatives are to be completed over the next 12 months.
--ONE module will be produced per fortnight.
This will be done by:
--applying technology to develop computer managed learning
systems
--editing for publication three catalogue rationales
--writing two books
5.1 Futurology
--writing three books on futurology
5.2 Geology
--writing one book on geology
5.3 Painting
--writing three books on Chan paintings
5.4 General Dissertations
--six introductions to key articles in our journal etc.
--editing for publication of 33 radio talks
--providing ESL wording for Dhamma terms
--providing 40 quarterly Task Unit report papers (4 Task Units
by 10 = 2.5 years)
5.5 The way of the garden
--four videos of the garden and the architecture with
accompanying notes
--Members will support this initiative
Developing the light of Dhamma
The best light is the light of Dhamma.
Our Member will develop sufficient merit to make known this light.
Within the next three months, due to the merit of our Member's teaching of the Perfection of Wisdom Texts, a part of his mandala of the Dhamma Light will appear in the human world.
The Light of Dhamma is an enabler and a blessing with
it things formerly not possible become possible.
The refinement manifests at our Centre to enable:
--lifetimes of practice of the science of speaking well as
a human being
--others to help our Member make a practical contribution to the
fine arts
--a resoluteness for our Member is to lend a helping hand to other
scholars in this life
--others to get understanding of the need for refuge in the precept
bestowing Buddha
--skilful financial planning for profit manifestation in many
fields
--the encouragement of his retinue to practice Dhamma Teachings
and instructions with goodwill
--the mandala that keeps the Upwey Centre stable and free from
harm to be seen
--bringing forth the sage's help to Upwey Members so that they
improve the UPWEY CENTRE'S supply chain management
--causing the affordable delivery of superior service to clients;
measurable as a ripening of applying technology to performance
giving at least 10,000% betterment to text generation and delivery
within the next two years
--maturing the five styles and good will and devotion (saddha)
within the Members
--And more!
Sourcing Arising of Means for Possible Practice
NOTE: "arising" means becoming manifest in the world at Upwey and elsewhere.
To help the arising of the next series of Bodhisattva "terma" (hidden assets) to help others, our Member will allot 0.1% of his nascent merit store to stabilise his next 40 years of life on a superior teaching mandala.
Use of his merit will have a catalytic effect on Members of our Centre and elsewhere to develop and improve knowledge management on site by 40,000% within three years.
What is the likelihood of his projects getting started this life?
Because our Member's output is to present a series of conceptual solutions, his merit is levered greatly and does not obey Monte Carlo distribution laws.
Because many persons befriend him and lend a helping hand, they help fund support for and operate much of the transactional sections of the projects.
Based on present estimates of how response times work at the
Centre and how likely it takes to get new projects started, it
is anticipated that:
--80% of his new projects will start within 3 months of launch.
--10% of his projects will start within 30 months (2.5 years)
after launch
--5% of his projects will start within 300 months (25 years) after
launch
--2% of his projects will start 3000 months (250 years) after
launch
--1% of his projects will start 6000 months (500 years) after
launch
By suitable causes, derivatives of the projects can flow on for at least 1,000 years.
The time to start the remaining 2% of his projects is indeterminate.
As an order of magnitude, these could reappear at some time from 1,000 years and five world cycles.
Who takes them up and works on times at different times and places over the next five world cycles is indeterminate.
Our Member's most important asset is that he has the ability to inspire the right persons to add their efforts to his programs. This means some of his senior Students mirror his aspirations.
Over the next two months, a suitable dispersion of this 0.0000001% nascent merit is:
25% of the merit will cause our Member long life, wellness
and good health
25% of the merit will be held in a second reserve nascent bank
so when our Member wishes to produce appropriate skilful methods
and/or means for work, high-grade pleasure and rest time, he is
enabled
25% of the nascent merit will be available for "super"
teaching
OUTCOMES WILL LOOK LIKE:
Within 3 months, our Member will develop the conceptual solution
of how he will give strategic performance.
Precepts and vows will be guarded appropriate to and within each
"yana".
Triple Gem Refuge will be preserved by our Member at all times.
May you be well and happy.
