Appeal by Khentrul Rinpoche

Tibetan Buddhist Rime Institute, Holder of Jonang Kalachakra

On Tuesday 24 April 2007 at 4.00am on the anniversary of Kalu Rinpoche on the 8th Tibetan calendar day in the first Kalachakra month, Khentrul Rinpoche's mother Sherab Donme peacefully passed away.

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, 30 days after the death is a special day, for Sherab Donme this day falls on 23 May, 7th day of the Tibetan calendar being Saka Dawa, Buddha's birthday. Traditionally extensive merit is cultivated for 49 days after the death. The last 3 days, which are the most important where many monks are invited to do extensive puja, occur on the 10th June being Dakini Day on the 25th Tibetan calendar day. That these dates occur for her death is very auspicious, she was an incredible Dzogchen practitioner and completely prepared for her death. At this stage we have no details regarding the circumstances of her death.

It is Tibetan custom to spend an incredible amount of money and time to generate vast merit for the person who has died, especially for good practitioners so that any obstacles may be removed for them to reach Enlightenment. Your prayers would be most appreciated.

Rinpoche wishes to offer dana to 10,000 monks and give offerings to the poor people of the local villages. He will invite 1000's of monks to attend over the 49 days and will personally attend on the last 3 days. If anyone would like to make a donation and join in this vast field of merit, Rinpoche would be deeply touched. He said "I can never repay the kindness of my great mother, this is the most important occurrence in my life".
