Dear All,
Well Versak Day was celebrated 02.05.04 and this day also saw the going forth as a Samanera (Pabbajja) of Jason Glasson, now known as Venerable Pasadika. My Dhamma name is from the Pasadika Sutta in the Digha Nikaya (collection of Long Discourses) and means lovely / delightful.
Through Peter Boswell and through occasional visits to the web sites I have kept up to date with what is happening at the Centre, I am astounded and delighted by the number and range of Dhamma teachings you receive and make available to all. BDCU was where I first encountered the virtue of the five Precepts and where I learnt the joy of being with Good Companions in Dhamma and for this I will always be grateful.
Please pass my hearty congratulations to Rodney, I was delighted to hear he will take ordination as a Monk. Congratulations also on learning the Vinaya, it is the very foundation of the Holy Life. The Buddha referred to his teachings as the Dhamma and Discipline because the discipline of the training (the Vinaya) is essential to the Holy Life. The main work we use for learning the Vinaya is ‘The Buddhist Monastic Code Vol. 1 & 2, translated and explained by Thanissaro Bhikku, Vol 1 is 2nd Edition 1996 and Vol 2 is 2001. They are printed for free distribution. There doesn’t appear to be a publisher as such or ISBN and they are printed in Thailand. I am sure that Sanghaloka Forest Hermitage, 29 Perrins Creek Road, Kallista or Buddhist Society of Victoria, (Malvern Road from memory) could help you if you don’t already have them.
I am returning the Bell and Dorje to you as I have no need for them and I am sure you can make good use of them.
With Metta
Venerable Pasadika
